Gina Claxton, LCSW – Couples Therapy in Lakeland, FL
Helping Couples Rebuild Connection, Trust, and Emotional Safety
I’m Gina Claxton, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker specializing in Gottman Method couples therapy for partners who want to heal, reconnect, and strengthen their relationship. Whether you’re facing frequent conflict, emotional distance, or the deep pain of betrayal, I offer a supportive space where both partners feel respected, understood, and heard.
Relationships don’t fall apart overnight—and they don’t heal overnight either. My role is to help you identify the patterns that keep you stuck, rebuild emotional safety, and create a stronger, more connected partnership.
My Approach to Couples Counseling
My work is grounded in the Gottman Method, one of the most research-supported and effective approaches for improving communication, managing conflict, and rebuilding trust. I am Level 2 trained and currently completing Level 3 toward full certification with the Gottman Institute.
To provide a well-rounded and personalized experience, I integrate:
-
Practical communication tools from the Gottman Method
This combination allows me to tailor each session to your relationship’s unique needs—supporting both the emotional bond you share and the individual experiences you each bring.
The goal is to help you:
-
Strengthen friendship and connection
-
Reduce conflict and reactivity
-
Rebuild trust after betrayal
-
Improve communication patterns
-
Restore emotional and physical intimacy
-
Create long-term relationship stability
Who I Work Best With
Most practioners are able to work best with motivated couples who are ready to engage in the healing process. Many partners come to me feeling disconnected, overwhelmed, or unsure how to move forward—but they still believe in their relationship and want support navigating the next steps.
You may benefit from therapy with me if you:
-
Feel stuck in repetitive arguments
-
Experience emotional distance or loneliness in your relationship
-
Recovering from infidelity or a breach of trust
-
Want to strengthen communication or reconnect as a team
-
Living like roommates rather than partners
-
Preparing for a significant transition (marriage, parenthood, retirement, etc.)
If both partners are willing to show up and do the work, meaningful change is absolutely possible.
Why I Do Not Accept Insurance
I do not take insurance because effective couples therapy requires more time, depth, and flexibility than most plans allow. This approach ensures:
-
Sessions are guided by your needs, not insurance limits
-
We can work deeply without rushed time frames
-
You receive a highly personalized experience
-
We focus entirely on your relationship—not diagnosis codes
This freedom allows us to do the deeper, transformative work that helps couples heal and reconnect.
Moving Forward, Together
Healing is possible. Connection is possible. A stronger relationship is within reach.
If you’re ready to move from conflict to clarity, from disconnection to understanding, and from hurt to healing, I would be honored to support you through the process.
